About Me

About Me

As you already know, my name is Diane Stephenson. I would like to share a bit information about me and where I come from so you can get to know me a little.

I cannot talk about me without telling you about my beginning and early years. I was born in Brantford, Ontario Canada–the city from which Alexander Graham Bell made his first telephone call to Paris, Ontario, seven miles from Brantford. My schooling was completed there and I graduated from Grade 13 at Pauline Johnson Collegiate and Vocational School. The school was named after the Canadian poet Pauline Johnson who lived on the Six Nations Reserve near Brantford. For some years now the city has been known as the home of Wayne Gretzky, the famous hockey player. Quite a range of the famous!

Following high school I was not sure what I wanted to do with my life. I decided to enroll in the Brantford General Hospital School of Nursing. After almost two years I opted to leave nursing, for personal reasons, and took a 10-month commercial art course. That course changed the course of my life.

In 1966 I moved to London Ontario where I started a job in graphic arts in a silk screen printing company. I learned a great deal there from how to design sale themes for stores to illustrating shoes to operating a process camera to working in the plant–even to running a printing press on occasion.

In 1970 I made a life-changing decision–to accept the Lord Jesus Christ as my Savior. My life has never been the same since. Many things have happened over the years and I have  grown from a shy young woman to someone who is not afraid to speak out, even in front of an audience. Change is probably the most constant thing about my life.

Over the last couple of decades I have had my own home-based business, first in hand-made crafts then in several network marketing companies. In 2010 I officially became a senior citizen, but retirement is not in the near future for me. I have too much yet to accomplish. I have been writing for over twenty years and that is my real love. Several of my small children’s books I self-published years ago. Now I am pursuing publishing possibilities for other manuscripts.

My church takes up much of my time. I recently finished a term on the Board of Directors and am a member of the intercessory prayer team at The Gathering Place and Revival Centre.

How do I spend the rest of my time? Well, I love to read. In fact, at times I have more than a half dozen books on the go at the same time. As I have already mentioned, I love to write. Photography is also one of my pastimes and I enjoy strolling through parks, gardens and out-of-the-city kind of places where I continually snap pictures of anything nature. You will find many of my photos here on my blog posts. Music is another thing I enjoy though I do not have much time for the piano any more. I used to paint–landscapes, portraits, animals–but that has also been set aside for lack of time. Maybe one day…

Well, I do not want to bore you, so I will end my tale here. Now you have learned about me, I do hope you will spend some time reading my blog posts and commenting. And I want to thank you again for stopping by for a visit. I look forward to getting to know some of you through your comments and e-mails.

God bless.

Yorkies have always been popular in the UK. Our District Nurse of many years ago used to keep hers in the basket on the front of her bicycle as she did her rounds. On one occasion a rather battered disabled lady turned up as part of a party at a booked hotel (so called Christian) with her miniature Yorkie and she was told quite brusquely “Put it in the kennels” so with the help of a friendly policeman we spent the next hour or so with me driving a quite large coach hunting for a suitable room. Eventually we found a lovely ground floor room for her, her companion ….and the Yorkie. She was almost totally paralysed but good company – I know which warm place the other hotel could be consigned.

We had Bedlington Terriers, sort of sheep looking with a tail and teeth. When I was on a late duty they used to trap my wife by spreading their bony selves over her. But when I crept in at 2 or 3 o’clock a rumble would great me – burglars not welcome!!

Thanks so much for stopping by, David. I remember many years ago seeing someone walking a Bedlington Terrier and it’s the only one I have ever seen. They do really resemble lambs. I appreciate you sharing your story here as a comment.
