Often our dreams die due to circumstances over which we have no control. Things inevitably occur to cause a postponement to some later date, to a day which appears ever further off which each succeeding day. Our goal seems just beyond our reach. We allow ourselves to get out of touch with the dream. Carefully we wrap it up in the tissue of good intentions, deposit it lovingly in a box called ‘the future’, and assign it to a shelf at the back of the closet of our lives where it is eventually forgotten. Suffocated and starved, it ultimately dies. It gets buried in day to day routines, bereavements, family projects, job-related problems and the general cares and duties of this world. Excerpt from "A Graveyard of Dreams: Breathing New Life Into Buried Dreams" by Diane Stephenson (coming in 2012)
